Synopsis:
Bad boy Jonas Wyatt’s personal assistant, Rachel, has had a child; an innocent new life that has been put in grave danger because of Jonas’s perilous games and calculations played in the shadow-world in which he lives: the dark and sensual world of the Breeds. Now, Rachel is making only one demand of Jonas—that he finally take responsibility and deliver on the protection that only he can give.

Jonas has known for a long time that it is destiny that Rachel become his mate. He can sense it. He can also sense her reluctance. And for that, he refuses to claim her. He wants her on love alone and not because of the urge of the mating heat. But it is Jonas’s destiny to claim her. And he will have his way…

Review:
I waited for this book to come out because I REALLY loved the Breed series that Lora Leigh put together and the other books were spectacular.  This one, however, is a bit of a disappointment.  Don’t get me wrong, I loved the story, just not as Jonas’s story.  At the end of chapter two I decided to continue reading it as a Breed story rather than Jonas’s story and as such it did not disappoint.  I think the best way is to break it down and tell you why I gave it the marks I did.

Let us start with the easy and move on to the hard.

Action line of the story: 3.5 out of 5 because the action was good, just not as good as the other books and the elements of danger in this one were so obvious.

Love line of the story: 2 out of 5 because although Jonas was very lovable, Rachel just was not convincing and there is a problem here I will talk more about later.

Main character consistency: 1 out of 5 because Jonas was just not the Jonas we all knew and loved to hate.  He is a manipulator and he loves to make people do what he wants them to do and though it is always for the good of these individuals you just expect surprises from him.  Here he was just…I don’t know…weak?  I understand that he needed to soften for his mate but to obliterate his character is just not right.  Rachel was just not there for me.  I couldn’t understand her.  I didn’t know much about her background and honestly, I didn’t care. She just was not a mate for Jonas, at least not in my opinion.

Conflict of story: 0 out of 5 because the conflict was a non-issue.  Jonas is a lion breed and we all know that lions kill the young of any mate once they take over, but being also human he should have had to be conflicted when faced with a mate who was already pregnant and then to deal with the child.  Even Rachel mentions it a few times, but there was no conflict there.  He accepted the child too easily and even if there was a struggle we were not privy to it.  I think it would have made an excellent conflict, and from the way Lora Leigh talked while promoting the book before it came out I for one thought this would be the conflict facing Jonas besides the action part…

So all together: I’m giving it a 2 out of 5 because once I decided to forget it was Jonas we are talking about I liked the story…

Conclusion: If you are a fan of the Breed series you will buy it and you will like it.  It is really not that bad, just don’t expect to see the Jonas you loved to hate.
