Graphic Novels Challenge 2010

Yay, my first challenge! *jigs* I’m fairly new to the whole graphic novel scene, to be honest. I’ve only read one so far in life, to my shame and dismay.

However, I’ve decided I will change that in 2010 and that I will participate in the Graphic Novels Challenge under the Intermediate level. Right now I’m planning on reading the following books, but will probably add more as I come across them.

  1. In The Small by Michael Hague
  2. Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoevsky
  3. The Complete Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi
  4. Beowulf by Gareth Hinds
  5. Supernatural: Rising Son series by Peter Johnson
  6. The Tenth Doctor Collected Comics by Jonathan Morris

As I’m trying to get more comfy and involved with the online book blogging community (I’ve been doing reviews since 2006, however, never really realized there was a huge community of bloggers until just a few months ago lol. Why yes, I do live under a virtual rock. Thank you for asking *g*), I’ve decided to also host a mini-challenge within this larger challenge within the month of January. I’ll post more about that as soon as I work out what I’m going to post ;)

For now, check out the rules for the main challenge and then head on over to their website to join in for yourself!

Rules and Guidelines to the main challenge:

  • The challenge starts on January 1st 2010 and ends on December 31st (but we don’t mind you starting early.)
  • You don’t have to make a list beforehand (but you can, of course! Lists are great because they give ideas to people who aren’t sure what to read. And if you do make one, don’t feel forced to stick to it!)
  • We simplified the levels of participation: you can be a Beginner (3 Comics or Graphic Novels), Intermediate (3-10) or an Expert (10+). You’re more than free to adjust your level of participation after the challenge has begun.
  • There will be mini-challenges! Look for a post with more info on that soon.
  • Overlaps with other challenges are totally fine.

wait – Crime and Punishment as a graphic novel? hmmm I guess I can see that (although I’ve only read the book lol)

I’ve never read a graphic novel…I think I have this impression that they’re kind of intimidating lol.

@Allison — Yeah lol, I plan on reading the actual Crime and Punishment in 2010 as well as I’m trying to up my classics, but this is the graphic novel I’m going to read.

Nah, I don’t think they are really that intimidating. I just always got the impression it was “taking the easy way of reading” ;) But I’ve kinda grown to respect them more.

You thinking about joining in on this?
